Oregon football recruiting: Four-star OT JacQawn McRoy commits to Ducks top 10 prospect in 2024 class

Oregon picked up a huge commitment Saturday from four-star offensive tackle Takla Jacob McRoy made his pledge to the Ducks at Arkansas, Kentucky and more in a live announcement on 247Sports’ YouTube channel. With the addition of McRoy, Oregon has moved into the top 10 for the 2024 class, landing the No. 8 four-star offensive tackle.

McRoy is the No. 3 offensive tackle and No. 59 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to 247Sports. He spread his June among his top suitors with official visits to Ole Miss (June 2), Arkansas (June 9), Kentucky (June 16) and Oregon (June 23) during the open recruiting window. Ultimately, that final visit, which followed another stoppage in the spring, allowed Oregon to seal the deal with the offensive lineman.

“They have a young coach,” McRoy told 247Sports. “The new facilities, you get everything top of the line. I feel like if you get everything top of the line, you’re in the best position to be successful.”

Oregon coach Dan Lanning has experience recruiting in the Southeast from his time as an assistant at Georgia, but so does Ducks running backs coach Carlos Locklyn, who hails from Alabama and used common ties to connect with McRoy, the No. 6 prospect from Alabama in the 2024 cycle.

“I want to thank coach Locklyn, he grabbed me,” McRoy said. “He’s from Alabama. When we started talking, we had a connection from the beginning. We’re both Bama boys.”
