Texas A&M football recruiting: Five-star WR Cameron Coleman commits as Aggies continue to bolster 2024 class

Texas A&M received a program-changing commitment from the five-star wide receiver Cameron Coleman on Tuesday. Coleman, of Phenix City, Alabama, passes Evan Stewart as the second-leading wide receiver in Aggies history.

Coleman has elite size and athleticism at 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds, and analysts believe he can potentially add 20 more pounds to his frame. The Class of 2024 prospect is ranked No. 17 in the country by Top247 and the No. 5 wide receiver in his class. Experts compare his profile to former Georgia star George Pickens.

“Shows the ability to create consistent separation through size, speed, quickness and leaping ability,” 247Sports national recruiting analyst Cooper Petagna wrote. “Plays above the rim in the downfield and has some of the best jump ball ability in the country from any pass-catching opportunity … projects as an immediate contributor at the next level and possible day one The NFL Draft selection.”

The addition is the rising 2024 class under Jimbo Fisher. The Aggies have added seven blue-chip commitments in the past two weeks, including one from fellow blue-chip receiver Drelon Miller of Silsbee, Texas. With Coleman’s commitment, the Aggies moved up to ninth in the ranking of teams with fewest commitments in the top 10.

Texas A&M was the first team to offer Coleman in 2022, and he rewarded the Aggies’ vision with several trips to College Station, including an official visit on June 16. The recruiting win came as a surprise, however, when Coleman turned down the state’s option. Auburn, who made Coleman the primary coach under Hugh Freeze. Coleman rated the No. 3 player in the state of Alabama.
