Penn State names Mike Mucci assistant tennis coach

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. The Penn State women’s tennis team has announced that Mike Mucci will join the Nittany Lions as their assistant coach. Mucci arrives in Happy Valley with a loaded coaching resume in Division I tennis.

Mucci’s most recent coaching stint was at Jacksonville State University, where he coached the men’s and women’s tennis teams for three seasons. At Jacksonville State, Mucci posted a men’s team record of 31-28 and a women’s team record of 31-31. He managed to recruit more than 10 key players, and the men’s tennis team finished 33rd.^rdin the country for the Tennis Recruiting Network’s 2023 recruiting class.

Prior to coaching at Jacksonville State, Mucci coached one season at Southern Utah University as the head women’s tennis coach where he recruited several 9 UTR players before the school’s program was terminated.

Mucci served as Belmont University’s men’s and women’s tennis coach in 2018-19. He helped their women’s tennis team record their most wins in a season in over 15 years. Mucci also coached the men’s doubles team of Marko Ilic and Hendrik Inno to the round of 16 at the NCAA Championships and a No. 8 national ranking in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Prior to coaching at Belmont, Mucci served as the men’s tennis coach at the University of Delaware in 2017-18. During his tenure as an assistant coach, the Blue Hens managed a 17-8 record, the team’s best record in 44 years. Mucci helped recruit the 18th mid-major recruiting class in 2018.

Mucci began his coaching career at his alma mater, Niagara University in New Work, where he served as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach from July 2015 to December 2016.

As a player at Niagara University, Mucci competed against top players from around the world in both junior and college tennis. In addition, he earned ITA scholar-athlete honors in 2012 and 2013.

In addition to his coaching and playing experience, Mucci served as a tennis professional at the Village Glen Tennis Club in Williamsville, NY and the Tennis Club of Rochester in Pittsford, NY.
