Kostyuk advanced to the third round when Badosa withdrew

Marta Kostyuk advanced to the third round of Wimbledon after Paula Badosa withdrew from her second round match.

Kostyuk, ranked 36th, was leading 6-2, 1-0 when the Spaniard, currently ranked 35th, withdrew from the competition.

Badosa only recently returned from a stress fracture in his spine, and it has proved too soon for the Spaniard.

The 21-year-old Ukrainian, meanwhile, will next face the winner of the match between Swiss qualifier Viktorija Golubic and American Madison Keys, the 25th seed.

Marta Kostyuk won the MM series in the previous round against the 8th-ranked Greek Maria Sakkar (0-6, 7-5, 6-2).

In the first round of the championships, the Spaniard defeated the American Alison Riske-Amritraj (6-3, 6-3).
