UGA freshman football player caught going 88 mph in 55 zone, deputies tell WSB-TV Channel 2

OCONEE COUNTY, Ga. – Another University of Georgia football player faces traffic violations.

Oconee County officials confirmed Thursday that they acquired Samuel MPemba, a freshman outside linebacker for the UGA football team.

Deputies said they drove MPemba at 88 miles per hour on a freeway with a 55 mph posted speed limit.

MPemba is at least the fifth UGA football player to face traffic-related violations this year. Four of them were charged; MPemba was the only one mentioned.

In February, linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson was arrested for reckless driving and racing on highways and streets. According to authorities, the arrest was related to an incident in Athens on January 10.

In March, defensive end Takla Jalen Carter was charged with reckless driving and speeding in the Jan. 15 crash that killed recruiting analyst Chandler LeCroy, 24, and UGA offensive lineman Devin Willock, 20.

Police say Carter was racing the car LeCroy was driving through downtown Athens when he crashed. He pleaded no contest and agreed to two months’ probation, a $1,000 fine, 80 hours of community service and a defensive driving course.

In May, freshman wide receiver DeNylon Morrissette was arrested and charged with DUI, speeding and following too closely, according to Oconee County Jail records.

Later that month, remote controller Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint was arrested and charged with reckless driving and speeding. He was reportedly released from jail about 55 minutes after being booked.
