FGCU women’s tennis earns team and individual ITA honors

FORT MYERS, Fla.– The FGCU women’s tennis team was named to the All-Academic Team on Monday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Seven Eagles were also named ITA Scholar-Athletes.

More than 1,500 Division I female student-athletes were named ITA Scholar-Athletes, and 234 women’s tennis programs received All-Academic Team honors in 2023. To be named to the ITA All-Academic Team, programs must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher (4, 0 on a scale) for the entire school year.

The Green and Blue maintained a 3.66 GPA in the 2022-23 school year. During the spring, FGCU posted its 23rd consecutive semester GPA of 3.5 or higher (3.74).

The following Eagles were recognized as 2023 ITA Scholar-Athletes:Emma Bardt (Vichy, France / Long Beach State University),Ida Ferding (Västeras, Sweden/Akademi Basted Gymnasium),Amelia Kopel (Wroclaw, Poland / Wroclaw International School), Lola Glantz (Lueneburg, Germany Carl Friedrich Gauss School),Gabriela Macias(Barranquilla, Colombia/Fontan College),Fanny Norin(Stockholm, Sweden/Thoren Business Schooll) andJordan Bones (Miami, Florida/John A. Ferguson Senior High School/University of Wisconsin).

To be designated as an ITA Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) during the academic year.

Bardet, Ferding, Norin and Ossa were also named to the 2023 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic List. On the field in 2023, FGCU posted a 16-7 overall record and a 6-2 mark in league play.

Vernon also guided the Eagles to a team finish among the top 75 women’s tennis programs in the ITA, ranking 70th.

Two Eagles earned ASUN honors. Norin was named to the All-Conference First Team andBardwas named second team all-conference.
