Tech Tennis receives ITA academic recognition

HOUGHTON, Mich. Both Michigan Tech tennis programs were recognized as 2023 ITA All-Academic Teams by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Tuesday (July 11).

The Huskies also had 13 players earn ITA Scholar-Athlete honors. The women were Dominika Bobik (Wroclaw, Poland), Emily Cojocaru (Richmond Hill, Ontario), Marina Fernandez (Reus, Spain), Chiara Heinz (Schwendi, Germany), Neva Manas (Carmel, Indiana), Lauren Opalewski (Oxford, Michigan) and Ewa Podulka (Trzebnica, Poland). The men’s roster included Adam Fenjiro (Rabat, Morocco), Vitor Jordao (Recife, Brazil), Ricardo Nunez (Ciodad del Carmen, Mexico), Eli Pinnoo (St. Clair, Michigan), Ambarish Rao (Irvine, California) and Leon Sell ( Neuenburg, Germany).

To earn ITA All-Academic Team recognition, institutions must maintain a 3.20 grade point average (on a 4.00 scale). Persons must have a grade of at least 3.50 (on a scale of 4.00) for the current school year and must be registered on the educational institution’s eligibility form.

In 2023, 468 Division II men’s student-athletes were named ITA Scholar-Athletes, and 64 men’s tennis programs were honored with All-Academic Team honors. In 2023, 623 Division II women’s student-athletes were named ITA Scholar-Athletes and 97 women’s tennis programs were honored with All-Academic Team honors.

In May, five Michigan Tech players also earned Academic All-District honors, with senior Dominika Bobik becoming the fifth MTU tennis player in program history to be named a College Sports Communicators Academic All-America. Both Michigan Tech tennis teams are coached by Kristin D’Agostini-Yep.
