Utah State released the 2023 cross country schedule

LOGAN, Utah Utah State Cross Country and Track and Field Coach Artie Gulden announced the Aggies’ 2023 ski schedule with two home games on Saturday, Sept. 2 and Friday, Oct. 6.

“We are excited about the upcoming season,” Gulden said. “This schedule should give both teams a good chance to make it to the NCAA Championships. Virginia is hosting it, so we’re going to their meet in September to get to know the course. This meet, along with the Wisconsin Invitational, will be huge for us if we can beat some good teams from other regions.

“Then we head into the season championship series, going to Boise for the Mountain West Championships and Lubbock, Texas for the NCAA Mountain Regionals.”

The Aggies officially open the season at home on Saturday, Sept. 2 when they host the Sagebrush Invitational at the Steve and Dona Reeder Cross Country Course. This is the first of two home games for USU, which also hosts the Steve T. Reeder Memorial Invitational on Friday, Oct. 6.

After the season and home game, Utah State heads to Reno, Nevada for the 2024 NCAA Regional Championship Preview on Monday, September 18th. Five days later, the Aggies will travel to the Eastern time zone for the Virginia Invitational. , held at Panorama Farms. Virginia will also host the NCAA Championships on Saturday, November 18.

After the Virginia Invitational, the Aggies will host the Steve T. Reeder Memorial Invitational before hitting the road for the rest of the season.

Utah State will travel to Madison, Wisconsin for the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational on Friday, Oct. 13 and then to Salt Lake City for the Utah Open on Thursday, Oct. 19 for the final meet of the regular season.

The Aggies open the postseason on Friday, Oct. 27 at the Mountain West Championships hosted by Boise State in Boise, Idaho.

The NCAA Mountain Regional Championships will be held in Lubbock, Texas on Friday, November 10th. The NCAA Championships will be held on Saturday, November 18 in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Gulden just finished his sixth season as head coach/remote coach for the Aggies. He is entering his eighth season at Utah State.

During the 2022 season, Gulden led the Aggie men to their fourth-ever trip to the NCAA Championships, all of which came under his watch, where they defeated five ranked teams and finished 26th with 618 points.

Two members of the women’s cross country team also competed at the NCAA Championships in the year Ana Weaverwho is starting his junior season,and recent gradMica Riverawhich ranked 53rd and 201st.Yonas Mogosled the Aggies on the men’s side as the senior-to-be was the 85th runner to cross the finish line.

Prior to the NCAA Championships, Mogos earned All-Region honors when he finished 23rd at the NCAA Mountain Regional Championships.

Gulden coached Weaver to second-team all-conference honors with a 13th-place finish at the Mountain West Cross Country Championships, where both the Aggie men and women finished third.

On the men’s side, older Camren Toddand graduated as a seniorDarren Harmanalso earned second-team all-MW honors as the duo finished ninth and 10th, respectively.

Weaver earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors by maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and finishing in the top 25 (or 10 percent) at the NCAA Regional Championships. Both the men’s (3.61) and women’s (3.82) cross country programs were recognized for a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 or higher.
