Soccer fans called for public transport to the FIFA Women’s World Cup

Soccer fever will take over Sydney as we host 11 FIFA Women’s World Cup matches on Thursday 20 July and Sunday 20 August, with 5 games at Stadium Australia in Sydney Olympic Park, including the final match, and 6 games at Sydney Football Stadium, Moore Park.

The 64-game tournament kicks off on Thursday 20 July when our Matildas take on the Republic of Ireland at Stadium Australia from 20:00. Fans are advised to plan ahead and use public transport, while Sydney motorists are asked to be aware of possible traffic delays.

Up to 75,000 fans are expected for matches at Sydney Olympic Park and up to 40,000 spectators at Moore Park. Transport for NSW has added thousands of extra transport services and enhanced routes and walking routes to help fans get around.

For fans attending the matches, public transport travel is included in the match ticket. Around 1,800 extra public transport services will run on match days, including an extra 170 buses and 127 trains for each match at the Olympic Park. There will be 20 extra shuttle buses and 20 light rail services for every game at Moore Park.

On-site parking at both Sydney Olympic Park and Moore Park is very limited. There is less parking due to the significant number of additional vehicles required for an event of this scale, including buses and event vehicles.

Considerable delays in traffic can be expected, especially during weekday evening games during the already congested evening peak, so motorists should allow plenty of extra travel time on the roads approaching the Olympic Park and Moore Park on match days, and ticket holders should use public transport.

For the safety and enjoyment of spectators, NSW Police is implementing a high-visibility policing strategy, Operation FIFA Womens World Cup, which will see additional officers patrolling Sydney venues including Moore Park, Sydney Olympic Park and the Darling Harbor area throughout the year. tournament.
