The Recorder – Hockeyday in Springfield to honor the history of professional hockey in the area on August 5th

WEST SPRINGFIELD The Springfield Hockey Heritage Societys Hockeyday in Springfield will be held on Saturday, August 5 at the Eastern States Exposition.

Hockeyday is an annual celebration of professional hockey in the Pioneer Valley with a rich history dating back to 1926. Fans, player alums and other hockey VIPs from across the United States and Canada gather at the Young Building at the Big E fairgrounds in West Springfield to share stories and celebrate the game.

The building is located a stone’s throw from the East States Coliseum, home of the Springfield Indians and Kings of the American Hockey League for more than 50 years.

Each year this event has grown and more former pros have come back to reminisce about their playing days in Springfield, said Mike Corrigan, former Springfield Kings forward and native of Ottawa, Ontario. The Springfield Hockey Heritage Society truly cares about preserving the history of hockey in Springfield, and it shows. This gathering is first class in every way.

The event features more than 20 former players, officials, staff and VIPs who have all contributed to shaping the history of hockey in the area.

In addition to joining Springfield legends, Hockeyday will feature a raffle, a silent auction of rare Springfield hockey-related photos and historical memorabilia, and exclusive merchandise and apparel featuring some of Springfield’s great hockey legends from years gone by.

Tickets are $14 for Springfield Hockey Heritage Society members and $17 for non-members.
