The Maldives Table Tennis (TT) national team for the upcoming Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) in Madagascar, scheduled for August, has been announced.
The country’s table tennis team includes a total of 12 players, of which six are female and six are male.
The female players include Fathimath Dheema Ali, Aishath Rafa Nazim, Mishka Mohamed Ibrahim, Laisa Fathuhullah, Fathimath Jumana Nimal and Aminath Shiura Shareef.
The men’s players are Mohamed Shaffan Ismail, Moosa Munsif Ahmed, Mohamed Zeesth Naseem, Akhyar Ahmed, Ahmed Tabin Shujau and Zeek Hassan Lateef.
Maldives TT athletes have been training in Croatia and India as part of their preparations for the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG).
In addition to the participating athletes, two Maldivian referees, Mohamed Yameen and Azzam Ibrahim, have been selected to officiate at this year’s IOIG tournament.
Aun Ibrahim Latheef and Minha Mahjoob Shujau will participate in the IOIG youth camp.
In the last table tennis tournament held in Mauritius in 2019, Maldives achieved remarkable success by winning a total of three gold medals. Gold medals were secured in the team competition, women’s doubles and women’s singles.
Maldives also earned silver medals in both women’s doubles and singles.
