RICHMOND, Va. Three University of Richmond field hockey student athletes collected All-State Medals from the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association, the organization announced Tuesday.
Junior Olivia Frazier (Cary, NC) was named to the first team, while the younger one Steffie Bongers (Weert, Netherlands) and a sophomore Erika Latta (Midlothian, Va.) took the recognitions of the other team.
Frazier, the Spring 2021 First Team All-Atlantic 10 pick, led the Spiders (4-3) by 13 points, four goals and six assists, starting in all seven matches this season. He collected his hat trick and one-aid from the highest seven points of his career in Spider’s 9-0 win over Saint Louis and earned A-10 weekly ratings for his efforts. He took his second goal of winning the road in Saint Louis. Frazier’s average of 0.86 per game played ranks second in the country, while his 2.00 points per game is 12th nationally. He has also received a triple ZAG Field Hockey / NFHCA National Academic Squad Award.
The Bongers collected the All-Atlantic 10 and All-Academic Team honors for the first team in spring 2021, and led the spiders (4-3) with six goals and second Total Points, 12, with assistance, in just six games this spring season. He had two goals in wins at home against Saint Louis and Davidson. Bongers collected A-10 weekly ratings against his two goals against Davidson. The Bongers will accelerate the A-10 by an average of 1.00 goals per game and rank tenth in the country. He is the nation’s tenth and exceeds the A-10 by an average of 2.17 points per game. He has also received a triple ZAG Field Hockey / NFHCA National Academic Squad Award.
Starting all seven Spider races as a second student, Latta has taken 26 shots in 59 shots this season at 0.812 percent savings, the nation’s eighth. He has only allowed six goals compared to a 0.91 goal on average, which is a good tenth nationally. He was named the 10th Defensive Atlantic Player of the Week twice this season (March 23 and April 19). He was among the first to collect the top five savings of his career and pick up a closing win against Saint Louis from his first career win. In his second weekly prize, he amassed one savings from three shots he faced to keep Davidson incomeless from his 45-minute action. Latta was also named to the second team, All-Atlantic 10, in the spring of 2021.
