The state tennis competitions begin this weekend with an individual tournament in Albuquerque on Thursday and finals on Saturday.
The teams ’tournament begins next weekend with Class 5A first-round matches in the upper seed area, semi-finals and finals in Albuquerque.
Mayfield’s Ellise Jay placed 4th among the girls and will play Samantha Baltzia from Rio Ranch on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the semifinals and on Saturdays in the semifinals and finals. Centennial’s duo of Alexie Stiles and Grace Chang were 3A 5A among the girls and will play at 12.30 on Thursday in the second round at 15.30.
Both centenary teams were eliminated for the second week of next week’s team tournament. The Centennial boys finished 2nd in the Class 5A team tournament and will be hosting the first round match No. 7 against Santa Fe. The Hawks girls hosted Alamogordo No. 7 in the first round.
The Santa Teresa boys were eliminated in 6th place in the Class A-4A team tournament and are playing No. 3 in Lovington. Santa Teresa girls seed No. 7 and play at Academy No. 2.
