The Hoosier Hills Conference issued badges for all the girls ’tennis meetings on Tuesday afternoon, and Seymour was pretty much represented on the list.
Brooke Schafstall and Sandy Cerino each earned HHC honors for their respective seasons. Schafstall played owls in one duel, and Cerino played in two doubles.
Each of them had very successful seasons that gave Seymour numerous points in big matches.
Schafstall and Cerino were joined at the duel meeting by Amelia Meunier and Libby Banet from Floyd Central, Claire Meyer from New Albany and Reagan Brown from County Jennings.
Kirby Hill earned an honorable mention on singles when he played three singles for Owls. Hill had a really strong rest of the year that became an automatic point for Seymour down with some key matches.
Hill joined the list of honors with Addie Scott (Jeffersonville), Natalie Saydera (New Albany), Lydia Kittrell (Jeffersonville), Tatum Brown (Jennings County) and Emily Duncan (Bedford North Lawrence).
Also deserving of honorable mention for the owls were Mallory Moore and Avery Ragon in the doubling department. They were one of Seymour’s pair of teams throughout the season, and the two parents had a star season last year.
The two meeting groups in the duel were Lily Meyer and Layne Burke from New Albany and Isabella Stigall and Mallory Pride from BNL.
Liz Ertel and Sydney Carlson of Jennings County were the second honorable mention double team against Moore and Ragon.
It was a well-deserved recognition for the Seymour team, which won a total of 16 matches this season, including the HHC title and partial championship.
Seymour advanced to the regional championship before finishing 4th in Columbus North.
Seymour ended the season as one of the best teams in the state and finished second with the Oldenburg Academy as the second best team in the 8th region, just after Columbus North.
Head coach Sharon Wood was pleased with how this season went for the owls and is excited about the future.
