Tottenham has made good progress in discussions with Heung-min Son about extending the striker’s contract, according to Fabrizio Romano.
What did Romano say about Son?
To clarify Son’s current situation, Romano explained that the 28-year-old has been negotiating with the club since the beginning of the year and things are moving in the right direction to get the deal agreed between the parties.
Talking Here we go to the Podcast, Romano confirmed: “Tottenham is working on Heung-min Son’s new contract. There are positive contacts, they have been working with it for six months. Now, of course, they focus on the leadership situation, but want to continue Son’s contract.
“They’re really optimistic, so it’s a new deal for Son for Tottenham under construction.”

Have there been rumors that Son could leave Tottenham?
Back in March it was reported that the German giants Bayern Munich were interested in signing the Son and were willing to offer him a five-year contract to attract him to the Bundesliga.
However, European football expert Kevin Hatchard said talkSPORT the following month that he did not expect a change to take place, and since the conversations between Son and Spurs now seem to be going well, it seems likely that he will prove to be right.
What were Son’s statistics for 2020/21?
The boy had the best scoring season of his career in this term, netting 17 times in the Premier League. He also chipped in with 10 assists, and of his 27 goals, only one of his teammates, Harry Kane (37).
As per WhoScored, Son made 75 keys when in a league event – no other Spurs player delivered any more – while he completed 39 dribbles that saw him third on Tottenham.
How important is it to Tottenham to keep the Son?
That is vital.
The boy was at the top of his game in 2020/21 and established himself as one of the division’s best wide strikers. His attacks alongside Kanei helped Spurs secure a place in Europe for next season, even though the party left Champions League football again.
It could be argued that Kane and Son are the only two world-class players in Tottenham at the moment, and the club is already in danger of losing the previous one when he informed them last month that he wants to leave.
Spurs simply cannot afford to lose the Son either. His abilities are not easy to swap players for, and if contract negotiations break down and the South Korean striker decides to move forward, Tottenham would be in real danger of falling even further to the table in the years to come.
