ATLANTIC CITY, NJ Claressa Shields found herself stuck on her back, stuck in a cage, and she sucked so many blows to the head that the invincible boxer looked on the brink of an MMA defeat.
I could have gone home with an L like this, Shields said.
So he dug deep into his debut for the courage that took him from Flint, Michigan, to Olympic gold twice and then to the professional career that made him the most decorated fighter of his time.
I got myself to go with these big right hands, he said. My right hand has never let me down.
From the square circle to the cage, Shields took possession of his powerful hand and raised it to victory.
Shields did a brief job on Brittney Elkin, and a miscellaneous martial arts novice indicated she may have a future in the sport with a TKO win on Thursday night at the Main Event of the Professional Fighters League card.
I won’t lose this fight, the invincible boxer said.
In his 155-pound light battle, Shields proved equally adept at unleashing miscellaneous martial arts. He shook the slow first two laps before getting Elkin to the ground and needed a few heavy shots to cause decisive damage. He earned the victory with his right hand from the top of the third round at 1:44.
I feel dreaming. This is crazy, he said.
The shields stretched out some of the boxing dresses, with boxing (where he was 11-0) on straight red sheets and on top. He still used his hair in a blue ponytail to raise awareness of the clean water battle that has continued for years in his hometown of Michigan.
He has already won the lightweight, medium and superweight crowns of his boxing career crowns and was the fastest fighter in history, either male or female, and became the three-division world champion. Shields did not begin his MMA training until December at the Jackson Wink MMA Academy in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

In the OCT, his inexperience showed up early. Elkin took Shields down the first round early and placed him when he hit the newcomer in the face. Shields took more punches in one round than he did for most of his pro-boxing career.
Elkin landed at the start of the big right second, which did little to race the Shields. Elkin returned to the mountain and held the career boxer on his back. The shields escaped the hardships towards the end of the second and swung and found wild just before he joined the several heads that set the stage for the third round.
I hit him constantly, I continued him, Shields said. I told myself to hit him constantly until he stopped.
Shields won Olympic gold in 2012 in London and repeated the show four years later in Rio de Janiero.
Shields cut a large number of fans: 76ers center Dwight Howard wrote Lets go champion on Instagram and actress Rosie Perez tweeted good luck today. Ray Lewis, who has a stake in the PFL and serves on its advisory board, followed the cage side and admired Shields ’decision to move to the OCTs while still at the best of his boxing career.
The genius of the champions in making transitions is that they start everything and don’t care, said Lewis, a Baltimore Ravens Hall of Fame player. Many people are afraid to start over. They end their careers, I’m stuck, I’m good. But when you make that transition, you’re chasing something else. I think he’s chasing something else, and it’s good to see. I love him to adapt to it.
CEO Peter Murray said Shields will fight once again this year for the PFL before making a decision for 2022.
This is just his first step in proving to himself that he really has what it takes to do 22 seasons, Murray said.
One potential dream match for 2022 in the PFL would get Shields to fight Kayla Harrison. Harrison, a two-time Olympic tissue medalist, has emerged as the face of the PFL. Harrison (9-0) will fight again on June 25th.
We think this is a pay-per-view battle, Murray said. It starts today.
Unlike other OCT organizations, the PFL uses a seasonal format, in playoffs and championship nights, which distributes a million-dollar prize to each of its six weight class champions. Four fighters each in the PFL feather and men’s lightweight series advanced on Thursday.
The shields were billed as a battle in PFL’s first show battle.
Murray said PPV is on the PFL horizon. On Thursday, the card was shown on ESPN2, and the league has not yet decided when and where it will host its championship match. The PFL held its previous two finals on December 31 in New York. Murray said the battle card may come before December.
