The opening stages of the 2021 girls ’state tennis tournaments yielded positive results for Thompson’s school district programs in Pueblo City Park and Colorado Springs.
After all the rankings competed in the semifinals on Friday, both Loveland (four rows) and Thompson Valley (three rows) collided among the best in Colorado in the Class 4A area as six Berthoud lines competed in Springs 3A.
As the main focus of efficiency, LHS will move to sixth in the semi-finals and championship rounds on Saturdays, collecting 10 points.
The line-up of top coach Heidi Abrahamsons, 1st single star Beilynn Geiss advanced to halftime after a dominant screen where the junior posted straight wins on Friday, losing just two games a day.
The tandems doubling the love lands No. 2 and No. 4 also dominated the last day of the state. At number 2, Tara Jeffries and Scarlett Jeffries improved on the Dakota Ridge by a quarter (6-2, 6-2) as LHS No. 4 duo Haley Vair and Libby Blanks advanced to the middle by beating Denver South (6- 1, 6-2).
Meanwhile, while all three TV lines recorded first-round wins, they each suffered their season-ending losses since Emmalee Dekkers (2nd Singlet), Dasha Mulholland (3rd Singlet) and Allie Mertens / Carolina Goldsberry (2nd pair).
At 3A, BHS No. 4 double twins second-year student Megan Malherbe and freshman Danae Alverson secured the opening round (6-0, 6-0) before knocking down Colorado Springs Christian to take the semi-finals.
The remaining matches for the 2021 state girls ’tennis tournaments will begin on Saturday at 9 p.m.
