A handful of local high school tennis players had a unique experience on June 8 as they competed in an Iowa high school state tennis tournament.
The tournament is a double tournament with one boy and one girl per team.
St. Albert sent two teams with Elder Jeff Miller and his sister, sophomore Landry Miller, to form one team and juniors Allison Narmi and Carter White to another.
Abraham Lincoln also sent two teams. Seniors Harper Snead and Dalton Pregon formed the first team and the second team consisted of junior Savannah Maisel and senior Carter James.
Lewis Central took one team, second-year Lanee Olsen and freshman Christian Jensen.
Miller’s siblings won the 6-0, 6-0 from Saydel they opened and earned a second-round victory against Dubuque Wahlert’s duo, 6-2 and 6-1. They eventually lost to fourth place.
Narmi and White lost in the first round of the tournament, but later won show matches.
It was a fun day with no coaching, St.Albert head coach Teri Miller said. It was really that the kids were playing with each other and having fun.
LC team Olsen and Jensen earned the victory in the first round by defeating Ankeny’s team 6-4 and 7-5.
