The Tennessee football program has lost another former highly ranked opportunity this offseason, but this is much less of a surprise. Malachi Wideman, a former top 100 player, is no longer involved in the Tennessee football program.
Wideman was rumored to be leaving, and a Tennessee representative confirmed the news today. The 6-4, 200-pound receiver was expected to compete for playing time this fall, but during the spring rehearsals, it became clear that something was going on. Wideman was reportedly dealing with the hamstring problem, but he wasn’t seen on the sidelines in Orange and White to wrap up the spring.
Today, Wideman is no longer officially part of the team.
Tennessee was able to come in late and grab the commitment of the two sports stars, bowing to the Tennessees class in 2020. Wideman was unable to make an impact last year in a crowded reception room, but he had every chance in front of him with new staff this season.
Wideman will join Key Lawrence, Eric Gray, Henry Too Tooe, Quavaris Crouch and Wanya Mororr at the most important opportunities before leaving Jeremy Pruitt after being fired.
Tennessee is left with Velus Jones Jr., Jalin Hyatt, Cedric Tillman, Jimmy Calloway, Ramel Keyton, Walker Merrill, Jimmy Holiday and Andison Coby.
