Across the country, 74 participants from South Australia came, conquered and competed.
Testing their skills among the best, players from Port Lincoln, Whyalla, Riverlands, Barossa and Light, Murray Bridge, Victor Harbor and Mount Gambier competed in the Country Carnival table tennis competition.
The competition was held at the Showgrounds Pavilion in Murray Bridge from Saturday, June 12 – Sunday, June 13.
Murray Bridge was attended by 19 participants, all ranging from A to C class.
Saturday was a competition in the team game and Sunday was a highlighted doubles competition that allowed players to show all their strengths.
The race was played continuously on Saturday from 8am to 8.30pm and the same Start Time on Sunday to finish at 6.30pm.
Murray Bridge won the men’s Class B team shield with Josh Bennier, Kyle Nixon and Colin Nusk.
Des Short had a pretty fulfilling weekend when he took tenth place in the men’s A-class teams against 26 other top competitors.
He followed it in second place in more than 60 men’s singles.
Short then partnered with Colin Nusken to win over 70s combined singles and partnered with Shane Denman in second place in over 40 men’s singles.
Laurette Norton took first place in the Class A women’s teams.
Norton lost just one of their nine matches. She also won open women’s singles and women’s singles over 40.

Shaun Farley won the 18-39 singles.
Ashley Vardon won the C-Class women’s singles and also took the place in the B women’s singles. Vardon then partnered with Angela Vardon to get second place in the women’s B doubles.
Kyle Nixon was second in the men’s B doubles.
Murray Bridge and the Districts Table Tennis Association, Laurette Norton, said it was an excellent day of competition and players had to test their skills with the best competition the state had to offer.
“Nearly 400 table tennis games were played on race days,” Norton said.
“It was a great day for all the participants.”
