TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) Madison Myers-Rebidas embodies the spirit of Southern Arizona. A 14-year-old Marana girl, Madison is a distinctive athlete in a sport that is usually dominated by boys.
Recently, he demonstrated his ability to compete on the football field with boys, as evidenced by the video.
“I ran out and up. I made my cut. Then I ran to the field. The playing field threw a really good ball and I caught it. It felt really good.”
This is how Marana High’s future newcomer showed the boys that she can also play football.
Madison showcased her talents at the recent University of Arizona football outlook camp, led by new head coach Jedd Fisch.
But she had reservations about attending after seeing more than 600 boys at the camp and no other girls.
“When I got there and saw a lot of boys, I kind of wanted to go home. But my dad made me stay and I’m glad he did. It was fun in the end,” Madison said.
“He offered me all the money in the piggy bank to pay me back and go home. I know he’s a good athlete. He just has to introduce it,” Madison’s father said.
Madison has been presenting her ticket events since she was six years old.
His favorite position is the wide receiver. His favorite job on the field is to prove that everyone is wrong.
“I know the look I get sometimes on the field and the little comments I hear. It’s kind of like forcing me to do better and beat them.”
That was his motivation at UA camp as he drove past the defender to get in touch.
Madison hopes to inspire other young girls in the sport.
“I hope there are some people out there who see it that way. It encourages them to try things out,” Madison helps.
