Georgia Gwinnett College tennis courts have earned NAIA regional awards from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, the organization announced Wednesday.
Head coach Chase Hodges was named Wilson’s Southern Regional ITA coach for men’s and women’s tennis, while Robert McAdoo earned regional women’s tennis in honor of ITA coach of the year.
Among the players, juniors Maria Genovese and Valentino Caratini earned the Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award among women and men tennis athletes.
Freshman Iryna Lysykh was Souths ITA Women’s Newcomer of the Year.
Georgia Gwinnett College also received the ITA Community Award between men’s and women’s tennis tournament teams in the Southern Region.
This regional recognition makes all award winners eligible for the National ITA NAIA Awards, which are due to be unveiled on June 23rd.
Both Georgia Gwinnett College tennis teams grabbed the NAIA national championships this spring, bringing the total number of programs to 13 national titles since 2014. The men’s tennis team has won seven national titles, while the women’s tennis program has won six championships and five straight titles.
Teams also have long paylines. The men’s program features the longest series of all countries in collegiate sports history with 147 consecutive wins. Meanwhile, the women’s tennis team has put together 42 straight wins.
