LONDON (AP) Arizona Coyotes and British striker Liam Kirk have signed an entry-level deal three years after he became the first England-born and trained player to be elected, his agent and Ice Hockey UK said on Friday.
21-year-old Kirk was the overall top scorer at the recent World Championships in Latvia, where he had seven goals in as many matches in the UK.
I’ve always dreamed of playing in the NHL, so making this deal with Coyotes is fantastic, Kirk said in a government body Ice Hockey UK announcement. I am a step closer to sleep and will continue to reach myself to the elite level.
Kirk’s agent Dan Milstein tweeted that Kirk agreed to a three-year entry-level agreement. Coyotes have not yet reported it.
The coyotes chose the 6-foot left side in the seventh round from the 2018 NHL draft, when he had the 189th general choice.
Kirk had 21 goals and 29 assists in 47 regular season matches at Peterborough Petes in 2019-20. OHL canceled the 2020-21 season due to a coronavirus pandemic. Kirk played briefly in Sweden and England last season to prepare for the worlds.
Kirk, who participated in Cirkes Newcomer and Training Camps in 2019, began his career in the Sheffield Steelers in the UK Elite Ice Hockey League.
