The five-star defensive head unofficially visits Auburn

Many people have talked a great deal about the new Auburn football line-up coach Nick Eason on the recruitment path, and the pace continued as one of the best prospects in 2023 found its way to Plains this week.

Peter Woods visited on an informal visit with his teammate at Thompson High School Tony Mitchell this week, which is the first visit for both customers since Bryan Harsin and his staff arrived on the plateau. Woods hinted on Twitter yesterday of returning to the plateau at the end of his visit:

Woods is a five-star defensive head in Alabaster, AL and currently plays at Thompson High School. Woods is currently the # 2 overall player in the 2023 class and defensive linemen in the # 2 class in 2023 and is the best player in the state of Alabama.

Last season, Woods injured his leg and missed more than half of the season, but returned to lead Thompson in the 7A state championship. In two years at Thompson High, Woods has amassed a total of 84 tackles, 23 losses and 10.5 sacks.

Gabe Brooks from 247Sports published an investigation report on Woods and told of this gifted child in Alabaster:

“Strong line of defense with potential for staff flexibility in multiple systems. Good height and enough frame space to add mass. Flashes impressive abruptness and functional sportiness in relation to size and age. Shows continuous detachable ability to shed vs. run. Flashes some pass-rush nuances after years. Athletic enough to be a threat from behind. Strong at the point of attack and arrives at the ball convincingly. Seems to be a very high floor view with a lot of long-term potential as well.

Recruiting Woods isn’t far off, but Alabama, Florida State, Florida, Auburn, and Michigan seem to be favorites for the talented defensive end. Alabama, Florida, UCF and Auburn are the latest schools to receive an informal visit from a 5-star hotel. If the Tigers withdrew this commitment, Woods would be the best-rated recruitment in Auburn’s football recruitment history.

Nick Eason and Auburn’s football staff hope to have an official visit to Woods ’campus next year, and Woods is likely to return to the plateau this fall for the game. Eason and this staff have flexed their muscles on the recruitment path, but now the challenge is to turn this pace into commitments. Stay tuned for this recruitment as Woods may be the number one opportunity on the Tigers 2023 Registration Board.
