UEFA has suspended a study on the use of German captain Manuel Neuer’s rainbow strap in his party’s Euro 2020 matches, the German Football Association (DFB) has confirmed.
Neuer has worn a rainbow armband representing solidarity with the LGBT + community in June in honor of the month of pride.
The goalkeeper first used it in friendly matches against Latvia 7. June, and has continued it in the German Euro 2020 group competitions against France and Portugal.
UEFA was deemed to be investigating whether the armband had violated the rules regarding field policy statements, but on Sunday, the DFB confirmed that the investigation had ended.

“UEFA has today informed the DFB that it has completed the review of the rainbow captain’s armband

“In the letter, the armband is rated as a group symbol of diversity and thus ‘good reason.'”
Meanwhile, Germany is considering lighting the stadium in Munich in rainbow colors against the last Group F match against Hungary on Wednesday.
Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter said on Sunday he intended to write to UEFA to ask permission to illuminate the Allianz Arena with Pride flag colors as a sign against homophobia and intolerance.
“This is an important sign of tolerance and equality,” Reiter told the news agency dpa.
Munich City Council had already demanded that the stadium be lit in rainbow colors against the game to protest a law passed by Hungarian lawmakers on Tuesday banning all content describing homosexuality or gender reassignment from being shared with minors. Human rights groups have condemned the law as anti-LGBT + discrimination.

“It is important for the state capital Munich to set a visible sign of solidarity with the Hungarian LGBTI community, which suffers from the current stricter homophobic and transphobic legislation of the Hungarian government,” the Munich Council stated in its application.
UEFA has the final say in organizing the event.
Meanwhile, UEFA confirmed on Sunday that it was investigating possible discriminatory cases that took place in Hungary’s first two Euro 2020 games at the Puskas Arena.
Fare, an anti-discrimination football group, sent a report highlighting a homophobic flag in the auditorium when the hosts killed Portugal in Portugal on Tuesday.
Monkey songs were also heard in a lottery organized by Hungary with France on Saturday, according to UEFA, an ethical and disciplinary inspector has been appointed to conduct the investigation.
