Muttiah Muralitharan was voted the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) in 21st Century Tests, leaving behind Shane Warnen, Dale Steyn and Glenn McGrath as a fine 50-member jury put together by Star Sports. The same jury had voted Sachin Tendulkar the greatest ever among the bats in the tests.
Sri Lankan’s legendary off-spinner Muralitharan is currently the highest gate receiver in both ODI and testing. Murali finished first and only so far with 800 test balls after playing 133 tests. His average of 22.73 is also one of the best among the big balls, having taken over 400 test vicks.
Laxman said he saw scary in the eyes of the batsmen as they faced Muralitharan in the match.
“I had the privilege of being against all of these big game. Steyn, if someone who knew how to swing the ball, not only the usual but also the reverse swing, stifled you and got you out. Shane Warne was present on the cricket field was just amazing,” said Laxman Star In Sports’ Cricket Live performance.

“But for me, it’s been Muttiah Muralitharan – the greatest bowler of all time in the 21st century – because he’s one spinner who haunted all beaters around the world, not just in Sri Lanka, not just on the peninsula. But all over the world except Australia. the greatest ever.
“It’s not just about the statistics, it’s not just the number of gates. He has 800 test locks, which is a big achievement, the way he bamboo the batsmen. I could see the fear in the eyes of the batsmen in front of Muralitharan,” he added.
Former Indian striker Sanjay Bangar said Muralitharan did not have the luxury of a good bowling attack that other players on his team had.
“I thought Anil Kumble would appear on the list because he is someone who has won a lot of matches for India, 619 test network. And doing it without Shane Warnen’s ability or without variation and cunning like Muralithara, a phenomenal achievement for Anil and India,” Bangar said.
“But I have to give it to Muttiah Muralitharan purely because he didn’t have the luxury of putting pressure on the other end except like Chaminda Vas, he had to do it all alone.
“I think for this particular reason it has to be Muralithara, as a mere record that he has taken responsibility for an international attack,” he added.
