(Reuters) – Hitting the ball out of the park at six is every striker’s dream, but British amateur cricket Asif Ali shone last weekend when the ball broke the rear window of his car.
Playing at Illingworth St.Mary’s Cricket Club against Sowerby St Peter’s in Sunday League action in West Yorkshire, Ali raised the ball to a massive six.
His joy turned to despair as he watched the ball collide with the windshield and fell to his knees with his head in his hands.
“When the ball went towards my car, (I said) Oh no, no, no – what happens?” Ali told ITV News. “It hit the screen directly, I was shocked.
“I’ve been playing at this club for a long time, but I’ve never brought my car to the parking lot, it’s always parked outside.”
Club president Jeremy Rhodes came to the rescue by agreeing to pay for a car repair, with which Ali also earns his living as a taxi driver.
“It was just appropriate, he made us a lot of runs and put a lot of effort,” Rhodes said.
