Police in Saravanampatt are looking for a man who beat his wife to death with a cricket bat late Monday.
According to police, Kumar aka Laventhiran (49) murdered his wife Kavithan (32) in their tenement house in Gandhima Nagar.
According to a complaint from Nagarajan, a relative of Kavithas, the woman married Kumari, a Sri Lankan refugee, after divorcing her first husband 12 years ago. Kavitha worked at a spinning plant in Gandhima Nagar and Kumar did demolition work.
In his complaint, Mr. Nagarajan said he would go to Kavithas House on June 19 at about 6 p.m. When asked about Kavitha, Kumar had told him that he had left his friend’s house a week ago when he cursed him while talking to friends on the phone. Mr. Nagarajan also claimed that Kumar threatened to stop him if he returned to the house.
On Monday, he went to the house again and found Kumar attacking Kavitha with a cricket bat.
According to Mr. Nagarajan, Kavitha died on the spot and Kumar fled the scene
NG Arun, Deputy Police Commander of Coimbatore East, said police task forces were looking for Kumar.
