Giants enrolls in training camp on July 27 to start the 2021 season, Joe Judges is the second year coach. Expectations are high after Dave Gettlemans off-season spending drastic.

In the 25 days leading up to the training camp, NJ Advance Media will count the top 25 players for the 2021 season.

That is, the players who are most important to the teams will succeed in the coming season.

First: A return team that can play a significant role in starting the season.

When freelance began in March, the giants were expected to aggressively improve their attack. And they were.

But it started out pleasant, which at least felt confusing at first.

As soon as free will began, the giants did not sign a wide receiver, a tight head, or offensive linemen. No, they specifically signed the runner, Devontae Booker.

It was an interesting choice he signed more than double what he earned with a minimum contract with the Raiders last year, given how the aggressive giants signed the almost 30-year-old setback.

But the giants clearly believe him, and there’s a reason he’s on that list.

Let’s take a closer look at Booker and why he logs on to list # 25.

WHO: Devontae Booker

Location: Run back

Age: 29

Year: Sixth (first with the giants)

How he went in 2020: Booker was the primary backup for Josh Jacobs with the Las Vegas Raiders last year, and he was relatively productive in that role. He just didn’t get much opportunities. Booker had only 93 strokes with 17 catches, though he managed 507 yards and three touchdowns and averaged 4.5 yards per carriage. Booker hasn’t had any full-time work-like returns since he started six games with the Broncos in 2016 and got 174 positions.

Since then, he has had a total of 208 plaintiffs in four years.

Why he is important: Simply put, the giants just don’t know yet what version of Saquon Barkley they’re getting an ACL injury that cost him all but two games last season. It is not yet clear when Barkley will even be finished and his position at the training camp will be in the air as well as week 1.

At the moment, it’s not entirely surprising if Booker is a starter in opening the season, though it depends entirely on how much progress Barkley makes in rehabilitation. So far, things seem to be going smoothly, but the giants have openly said they intend to take it slowly.

So this leaves Booker, who took over most of the first team during the mini-camp and OTA.

While Barkley is ready to leave in Week 1, he hasn’t taken the games into account in the last two seasons, and the giants see Booker as an update over Wayne Gallman for a couple of reasons.

First, Booker is a step forward both as a passport holder (99 grabs 815 yards in his first three years) and as a protector. In 2019, Booker ranked 25th in passing blocking among running defenders.

Second, Booker can participate in special teams. He has a total of 533 combinations of special teams in the last four years.

The giants have upgraded the running room in general, adding veteran Corey Clement, rookie Gary Brightwell and Jaguars elect Ryquell Armstead. But Booker plays more than they all do.

He said itA: Well, for one reason why Devontae was prioritized, there can never be too many good players anywhere, I don’t care what anyone says. One of the things that made Devontae so appealing was that we felt he was a legitimate three-down player. It’s always a group decision here, all in the best interests of the giants, so obviously he can be a good part of our solution during a setback. Giants GM Dave Gettleman
