NEW YORK – Longtime coach Benoit Allaire was hired on Thursday as the head scorer for the New York Rangers, one of many changes by new CEO Chris Drury to modernize the hockey division.
Drury also praised Jeff Malcolmin as Hartford Wolf Pack’s goalkeeper coach, appointed Jean-Ian Filiatrault as goalkeeper consultant for the player development department and hired Matt Hunwick to work for the hockey player development department.
Allaire oversees the development of goalkeepers throughout the organization. He continues to work in New York and remains the Rangers goalkeeper head coach. He has spent the last 17 seasons in the coaching staff since being appointed assistant coach and goalkeeper coach in 2004.
Malcolm will join Wolf Pack AHL’s coaches as he has served as the team’s goalkeeper consultant for the past three seasons.
Filiatrault works with Allaire and helps develop the goalie’s outlook throughout the organization, including Europe and at the junior and college levels. Prior to joining Rangers, he worked with the Colorado Avalanche, Anaheim Ducks, and Toronto Maple Leafs.
Hunwick works with Jed Ortmeyer, director of player development, focusing on defenders. He will join the organization after returning as a volunteer assistant coach in Michigan for the past two seasons.
