SPRING MILL There hasn’t been much excitement behind the annual youth ticket football seasons, but one league has begun to create seasonal Buzz.
As younger parents in Hernando County think the flag football league will place their son or daughter, the Spring Hill NFL Flag Football League has begun to come to mind.
The league has taken the county by storm in recent years as many young footballers have moved from tactics to a flag football game. The ability to hone players ’strengths in catching, running, and throwing a ball has helped tremendously in the development of young football players throughout the county.
The growth of the series has been explosive: Spring Hill NFL Flag Football Football League commissioner Andrew Sitarstation said more than 500 players have taken part in the latest spring season, held at Veterans MemorialPark outside of Spring Hill Drive.
The bustle of music, the food truck that offers Icees and the immediate area of access departments have made the games a fun environment for children and families on Saturdays.
The league has grown so much, Sitar said. We have over 500 players and over 48 teams and coaches.
We start at the age of 4 all the way to the age of 14. It really has been a gaming experience. The league has really grown by word of mouth of all the parents and players in the league.
Sitar also pointed out the ever-increasing number of girls joining the flag teams in the league, helping to start a conversation with the girls ’flag football team in high school ranks.
The Florida High School Athletic Association forces a flag on football during the winter months, when state champions are named. The hope is that the girls will continue to take an interest in ticket football and help get high school to start the ticket program.
