Baton RougeFive men’s tennis tigers received an honorable mention from the 2020-21 Louisiana Sports Writers Association College tennis team, theLSWAannelled.
Ronald Hohmannand Benjamin Ambrosiohighlighted Tigers ’accomplishments.Hohmann was named to the All-Louisiana first team and Ambrosiowas was named to the Team of the Year as well as the All-Louisiana Second Team nod.
In addition, Boris Kozlov, Rafael Wagnerand Nick Watson was named to the All-Louisiana second team.
Ronald Hohmannadded to his list of second-year season achievements with a first-team nod. The New York native was an honorable mention for his freshman season, but after his top 35 ITA rankings in both singles and doubles, he was named to the first team. He was selected for the NCAA Singles Championship, the first men’s tennis tiger to do so in five years. In the doubles Hohmannand Rafael Wagner went 18-12 and reached the top spot of his career at No. 32 in the ITA doubles.
Benjamin Ambrosiolimited the impressive freshman season by placing him as the freshman of the year. Argentine Santa Rosa set a 9-6 record in the double season and a 6-2 record in six pitches. Five of Ambrosion’s nine victories came in teams ranked among opponents.
Boris KozlovThe second team’s nod makes it his second consecutive season on the LSWAAll-Louisiana team after he was named first team in the 2019-20 season. A Florida native has put together 13 doubles wins and with his twin partner and All-Louisiana counterpart, Nick Watson, had a 14-10 record in singles, went 12-5 in the double season on field two.
Rafael Wagnerindoubles and doubles earned him a spot on the All-Louisiana second team. Wagner filled 10 singles with a win and a partner Ronald Hohmann, went 18-12 pairs. The duo has risen to the top 32 on the ITA Doubles list and was named No. 3 alternates for the NCAA Foursome Championships.
Nick Watsonin the double effort gave him his first All-Louisiana candidate. Watson and his partner Boris Kozlovhad a 14-10 record in doubles, went 12-5 in the doubles field for two.
The state sports information directors selected the 2020-21 All-Louisiana tennis teams. SIDs were not allowed to vote for candidates for their own institution.
