Hurricane Lane banned Lone Eagle in the final stages of an exciting final when British raiders dominated the Irish Derby in Curragh.
Frankie Dettori appeared to have stolen Classic Marty in the Meades Lone Eagle by shooting three lengths from the melee behind him in two long runs. Hurricane Lane seemed to be in real trouble, but as corrected by William Buick, he relentlessly agreed, eventually to the neck.
Hurricane Lane, winner of the Dante Stakes in York, had met his first defeat at Epsom behind teammate Adayar. His trainer, Charlie Appleby, had not concealed that he was expecting Hurricane Lane to rise there.
The housekeepers ’survey was launched here, but the win was quickly worried, and the leading pair was seven lengths away from Wordsworth in the third. The big disappointment of the race was a favorite, Aidan OBriens High Definition, who was one of the first horses to be beaten.
Fantastic this means the world to me, Buick said afterwards. I have to give credit to Charlie and the Moulton Paddocks team at home. This horse has done nothing but heal, and he has healed since Epsom. We all know that it is not an easy task.
I thought about the middle of the race, which went to give up our position behind Frankie, and I thought you would get to the first run. My horse accelerated really well and showed a lot of quality today. When I changed him out wide, he managed to get a clear running space and he left.
He is a very, very good horse. We apparently admired him at Epsom and today he healed again, Buick added. This horse is a slow learner, a bit like me, but get there eventually!

Appleby believes Hurricane Lane had made significant strides since Epsom, but will take time to plan its next goal when Adayar plans to run in Julys King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. We have no immediate plans. I say we sit firmly up to King George and watch what happens there, he said.
The coach added that Hurricane Lane gained experience from the defeat at Epsom. After Epsom, it was noticeable how the hed grew, his work was sharper. I thought Frankie had stolen the march [today] and tightly fastened back, but I knew our horse would continue to gallop to the line.
