Detroit Thomas Wilcher has resigned as Detroit Cass Tech’s head football coach to take a job on Michigan State’s football program, according to source.
A source with direct knowledge of the situation requested anonymity because no change has been reported.
Wilcher will become the subway station’s second-most high school head football coach, moving into the ranks of the university. He joins Ron Bellamy, who took a job in Michigan due to the West Bloomfield Division 1 championships last January.
Wilcher, a former Michigan who worked in the mid-1980s, said in 2013 he was interested in coaching college football.

Wilcher is 190-70 in 23 years at Cass Tech. He won the third state championship in 2016 when he lost to Romeo in the 2015 state.

Veteran school coach Tony Blankenship could be a candidate to replace Wilcher at Cass Tech. Blankenship said a year ago that he did not plan on coaching again at PSL.
