LOS ANGELES (AP) Philip Anschutz has agreed to sell his 27 percent stake in the Los Angeles Lakers to two Dodgers owners, according to a published report.
Mentioning unidentified sources The Los Angeles Times said On Saturday, the 81-year-old billionaire will sell his stake to two Dodgers owners, Mark Walter and Todd Boehly.
The deal was first announced by Sportico, a website that covers the sports business. It said Walter and Boehly’s share of the Lakers would be worth $ 1.35 billion, making them the team’s largest minority stake. The Lakers are owned by the family of the late Jerry Bus.
Anschutz also owns the NHL’s LA Kings and Major League Soccer’s LA Galaxy. His Anschutz Entertainment Group owns sports teams, events and venues, as well as entertainment venues.
He owns a stake in the Staples Center, home to the Lakers, Kings and Clippers. The Lakers recently renewed their lease with the LA Downtown Arena.
In 2012, Anschutz brought AEG up for sale, but took it off the market the following year.
A AEG spokesman rejected the comment on Saturday.
The sale requires the approval of the NBA Board of Directors.
