June 27 (Reuters) – Britain’s multiple world and Olympic champion Mo Farah will not end his career on the constellation because he has not reached Olympic running time for the 10,000-meter race at the Tokyo Games, his coach Gary Lough said.
Farah, 38, won gold at 5,000 and 10,000 yards in the 2012 and 2016 games, needed a clock of 27 minutes, 28 seconds to be in the selection, but was almost 20 seconds too slow on Friday at the British Athletics Championships. Read more
Farah, who also holds six world championships, had questions about his future after the race, but Lough said such a speech was premature.
“Under no circumstances should Mo Farah end his career by touring here on the track,” the BBC quoted Lough as saying.
Farah had focused on the marathon for more than three years, but returned to the Olympics with a second shot.
Lough said he was unsure of what would happen next to Farah, who also missed the 10,000-meter qualifier at a meeting in Birmingham this month.
“There wasn’t really a Plan B – this was a kind of Plan B after Birmingham, and there’s certainly no Plan C at the moment,” Lough said.
