1. Why was no penalty imposed on RSL?
IFAB game laws clearly show that if a player has an opponent, the opposing team receives a direct free kick. But if the offense takes place in the penalty area, the opposing team can take the penalty.
During the second half, midfield player Damir Kreilach tried to get up and see a possible shot. But his hand seemed to hold Houstons Tim Parker.

Advertisers on the TUDN broadcast thought RSL should be punished, as should social media fans.
Even after referee Nima Saghafi spent a few minutes watching the video on the sequence, the decision to dismiss the penalty remained. But the question is, why?
If Kreilachs holding Parker is missing in real time, OK, that’s a bit understandable. The game was overtime, things were hectic, maybe other players blocked the referees ’view.
But to watch the video and see Parker holding Kreilachs hand and then Kreilachs falling to the field, and still doesn’t call it wrong? It’s confusing. It appears that there was no infringement committed, a clear and manifest error, and, in general, these criteria invalidate the earlier decision.
It seems clear that one of the Twitter users mentioned above is right: RSL got the hose.
2. How cheap was it to hit the target?
Coach Freddy Juarez, defender Justen Glad and striker Bobby Wood all said different versions of the same version: the goal RSL gave Houston in the second half was cheap and well preventable.
Looking at the whole series, it starts by entering Kreilach in the box. He tries to hit the open Maikel Chang to the right, but the feed is cut off and the counter starts.
Midfielder Nick Besler aggressively tries to recover and wins the ball back, leaving him deep in the back when he is fed forward. This left midfielder Pablo Ruz in a position where he had to run fast for a dear life so he could try to stop the game.
And Ruz tried desperately to end the episode. He is clearly trying to break and hug everyone in possession of the two Houston players, but the referee did not call. Juarez said after the game that he would have liked RSL to put the Houston player on the ground to stop the transition. In this sense, it is an honor for Dynamo to be able to hold possession and stand up to its advantage.
Then a little later, Maximiliano Urruti flashes unobstructed into the open space and receives the ball, explores his possibilities and takes an open shot that goes in. RSL doesn’t have much resistance, which is why everyone was so frustrated that they surrendered there.
So all in all, it’s not quite 10/10 on the cheap paint scale, but it’s probably around 7.
3. Maikel Chang is effective
Something that got lost in RSL’s second frustrating home result is how effective Maikel Chang was in the long minutes. He played 66 minutes, passed with 80% accuracy and gave five keys.
In light of this, it may be instructive to just look back at some of the most positive attack episodes in which Chang participated.
10th minute: Makes a leading pass leading to the center of Herreras, leading to a corner kick that led to defender Justen Glads’ goal.
33 min: Gives a head feed to Rubio Rubin, who led a long throw to defender Aaron Herrera’s box.
38th minute: Makes a floating cross in the box for Kreilach, leading to the end that was saved and leading to the corner kick.
39th minute: Gives a simple side pass to the open Ruz, leading to a shot to the goal.
41 mins: Passes Herrera forward, leading to the center of the box.
43 minutes: Puts himself in the box and tries to hit a shot in the middle of Runsks, who just loses.
45 + 3 minutes: Shows the passing angle, feeds back to Herrera for a shot that needs to be saved.
47th minute: Playing a two-man game with Rubin, where he gets a pass, goes ahead, tries to pass to Rubin, which leads to a throw.
62 minutes into the match, the visitors’ central line of defense had to look on as Kreilachiin dashed through, knocking home 3 – 0 for fc.
