Head coach Mack Brown and the UNC football program welcomed two new additions to the 2022 class over the weekend with three-star liner Deuce Caldwell and three-star offensive Justin Kanyuk.
Caldwell – who stands 6 feet and weighs 210 pounds and has played safety at Mauldin High School in South Carolina – committed to Tar Heels on Friday of the week after his official visit to campus.
He will become the fourth defensive player to join the UNC 2022 class, alongside four-star driver Tayon Holloway and four-star winger Malaki Hamrick and Beau Atkinson. 24/7 According to Sports, Caldwell is ranked 17th player in South Carolina and No. 98 ranked player in the country.
Much of Caldwell’s family lives in Asheville, and he already has a UNC connection in the form of the former UNC men’s national basketball champion, Theo Pinson.
He chose Tar rates over bids from Arkansas, Baylor, Central Florida, Duke, Minnesota, Ole Missis, South Florida and West Virginia.
Kanyuk, meanwhile, pledged to tar rates on Sunday before the end of his official visit. Bethlehem Catholic High School’s 6-foot, 290-pound Takku in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, also received bids from Brown, Charlotte, Columbia and the state of Illinois.
She is ranked as the country’s 77th offensive battle and Pennsylvania’s most common player 24/7 Sports.
Kanyuki will become the second three-star offensive battle in the Tar Heels class in 2022, joining Trevyon Green.
