Goalkeepers should take on the “hero position” of penalties – Team GB Olympic star Maddie Hinch in shooters

[ad_1]

The team’s GB hockey goalkeeper Maddie Hinch says England’s number one Jordan Pickford should see the penalty kick momentarily brilliant if penalties are needed to settle the last 16 matches of Euro 2020 with Germany.

Hinch was the star when Britain won the Dutch Olympic gold in Rio 2016, saving all four penalties, making him a national hero when the match took place in prime time on Friday night in the UK.

Although England reached their heads in major football tournaments by winning the 2018 World Cup in Colombia, they have never beaten Germany by shooting, losing in the 1990 World Cup and Euro 96 – both in the semi-finals.

Eurosport caught up with Hinch, who gave us an explanation of what the goalkeepers have to do to get an intellectual advantage.

First, you need a chance to recover like no other athlete – the goalkeeper lives life on the edge consistently, you can change the direction of the game. You need to be happy with that pressure, enjoy it, and look for an opportunity rather than fear failure. You have to enjoy making savings.

I’ve had moments where I’ve thought, don’t shoot me. In Rio, I can honestly say I wanted them to shoot – I felt six feet long and six feet wide. What separates top guards – true self-confidence – and if it goes in, you move on. What happens in your mind is the difference between good and great goalkeepers.

I’m definitely looking forward to a certain amount of savings – shooting is an opportunity for goalkeepers to shine. We spend most of the game standing, during the game you may not have touched the ball and lost 3-0. We are going through severe downs and that is an extreme position.

But when the shooting happens, I think great, this is a moment to shine. The hero position you can have, its a cool situation to be in and you should embrace it. If you have done your homework and you are behind yourself in making savings, you should be fine.

However, the mentality is greater than the technology. When we played the Dutch in the finals, they had amazing hockey players, they have the ability to run around me and put the ball on the net, and they should have, but they didn’t because of the mental side.

Surely they were wearing that they had not done it against us before. Ke has had a lot of shooting rounds and it was a very nice experience and I knew I had a psychological advantage. After that, it just comes into the routine, restoring after the end of the game and restarting your processes.

We could not have practiced it anymore, and I wonder if the Dutch did the same. That’s why I get the notebook out, I tap both messages as I try to get to their heads. After that, your opponent can handle the situation.
