The investigation into allegations of abuse in Australian swimming is being led by a lawyer who helped develop laws on sexual discrimination against peoples. Chris Ronalds has promised an independent inquiry into the allegations that have spurred the swimming of the Australian elite at the Toyko Olympics in the coming months.
Within weeks, Ronalds will select other members of the female panel to investigate allegations of abuse triggered by two Olympic silver medalists Maddie Groves. Ronalds asked the swimmers to file complaints.

Groves ’allegations sparked other reports of cases, including the fat shame of female swimmers, as at least six other elite swimmers prepared to raise their concerns. SA has acknowledged that the treatment of some swimmers is acceptable for decades.
Ronalds, a prominent Sydney lawyer known for his work in the Discrimination and Harassment Act, was a key factor in the development of the Australian Sex Discrimination Act 1984. The Ronalds panel examines, among other things, the behavior and behavior of Australian swimming authorities. They will also explore sports complaint systems and how best to address issues related to swimmers ’physics.
