Kohli leads, as does Dhawan, as two-team cricket brings more talent to the field

In 1998, cricket was introduced at the Commonwealth Games for the first time in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur. All other things being equal, India would have been as serious a challenger as any other participating team, all of which were awesome given that cricket was at that time largely a sport in the Commonwealth. The key to the work was the prestigious annual Sahara Friendship Cup, which was contested simultaneously between India and Pakistan in Toronto.

If it does not show the strength and depth of Indian cricket, nothing else will.

Rahul Dravid, who did his virginity as a senior international coach, stressed in Mumbai on Sunday that similar tours were a short-term need for Indian cricket because of the pandemic. Maybe it may not be as short-lived, especially in the near future, when teams have to separate when they arrive in a new country, and players find the pressure that lasts longer and longer in biosafety bubbles mentally.

When the A-team program has to end up being condemned for the coronavirus and domestic cricket march in India with some uncertainty, these simultaneous tours are perhaps the only indicators to national voters of how far they have extreme players monitoring progress. The host boards are happy to invite all Indian international parties as they are familiar with the star power of the band, not to mention the excellent skill packs they bring with them. In countries where restrictions have been reasonably removed, Indians easily place the required pieces of seats to fill stadiums that were associated with even slightly more modest revenues from television and sponsorship rights, unexpected for many cricket boards whose Indian cricket structure cannot be limited to extra talent alone.

From numbers alone, one can measure how strong a team led by Dhawan is. The skipper and his deputy, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, have each played over 100 ODIs, while Hardik, Chahal and Kuldeep Yadavi each have 50 caps in a 50-over game. Only five of the 20-man team are still playing international; If Sri Lanka, which is currently being taken to an English prison, is waiting for the second language side, they will face a rude shock.

The press may see two Indian teams fighting simultaneously on the world stage as a dilution of the concept of international cricket, but in these random times it is difficult to stick to traditional thought processes that may have become obsolete. Too many good things might kill a goose that lays golden eggs, fit, but were simultaneous trips less exceptional, BCCI’s top brass must make sure it’s not too much, just as it’s not too little either.
