MORGANTOWN, W.Va. The second transfer relates to WVU football.
Deshawn Stevens announced late Monday night that he would commit to Neal Brown and mountaineers. Stevens will join the team for the upcoming season 2021 as a redshirt parent.
Stevens, of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, is a linebacker who has previously played for Maine. The Black Bears playing in the CAA saw their 2020 season in the spring and only shortened to four matches, but Stevens managed to lead the teams with a total of 36.
His 2019 campaign was also short, but in very different circumstances. Stevens played in only one race and suffered an end-of-season injury at the opening of the Maines.
But in the 2018 season, Stevens showcased his talents, recording one of the best defensive seasons in Maine football history. He led the black bears in the fight with 120, adding 17 sticky losses and nine sacks when starting all 14 games.
Adding Stevens to the linebacker will help West Virginia mitigate the losses of Tony Fields, the team’s leading fighter in 2020. Senior Josh Chandler-Semedo is expected to replace Fields as the teams hold the linebacker.
Stevens joins Canadian Alonzo Addae in defending the mountaineer. Both players chose Ottawa red-black in the draft CFL, and each can still compete in the NCAA in 2021 before a professional career.
