PLAYER OF THE YEAR – Emma Sun, Westlake, Jr.
When looking for the best player, don’t look at the best set.
Westlake High’s Emma Sun was an independent girls tennis player who anchored the team’s victory in the CIF State SoCal Regional final. The Warriors won the title with a redeeming victory, 5-2, on the peninsula on June 5, after losing to the Panthers 11-7 weeks before the CIF South Division Open Division final.
Sun has a blue chip potential with a Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) of 10.25 and 4.85 GPA. He has received attention from Harvard, Princeton, Yale and UCLA for playing tennis.
The junior captain is undefeated in the Marmonte League and has a 6-0 record in the CIF state regional playoffs over the last two seasons. During that time, Sun won three NCAA Division I-caliber players who are either committed to the school or competing at that level.
Sun ended his spring campaign by being named Marmonte League MVP and was selected as a high school All-American.
Westlake ended the season 18-1.
