TAMPA After 20 years, people will look back on the seasons 2019-20 and 2020-21 and scratch their heads as they read NHL record books.
Then they remember the COVID-19 pandemic that forced the couple into the seasonal season typical of October through June outside.
And because there’s hockey in July, more records were set on Friday night as Lightnings Game 3 won the Canadiens in the Stanley Cup final.
Defender Jan Rutta opened the floods with a 6-3 win over Tampa Bays in the first season in Montreal. He was the first player in league history to have scored in July.

However, the first night didn’t end when second blueliner Victor Hedman quickly followed with the second goal of the game during the first period. With a score, Hedman became the first player in NHL history to score in all 12 months.
Tyler Johnson and Nikita Kucherov later joined the exclusive club with their own goals. Johnson had two (one in the second period and the other in the third), and Kucherov scored in the second period.
Montreals Corey Perry, who scored late in the third period, has also scored a goal every month.
