Belle Chasse seems to continue to be consistent – Crescent City Sports

When you play Belle Chasse High School, there are some absolute prerequisites for expectations.

You know it’s going to be a quick game.

You understand that you need to reconcile the physicality and tenacity of the Cardinals.

You are sure to face a well-trained team.

You have to tie eight men in a box and use your chances in the event of a passport.

The striker is a strange, rarity for the Cardinals, a rare development on today’s football brand that includes distributed attacks and run-pass options.

For Stephen Meyers, an alternative attack is a stable coach’s stable program.

Now in its seventh year, the results have been consistent with a very coherent program.

Despite having faced many teams with superior athletes, Belle Chasse has competed well, succeeding well, with a 41-33 record

On the 26th seed, Belle Chasse reached the Class 4A state playoffs a year ago, dropping in the second round to Eunice as it disrupted No. 7 Carver in the 35-14 opening round. It was the second time in three years that the Cardinals always won the talented Rams in the playoffs.

It was the fourth consecutive year that the Cardinals won the playoffs before going into the second round.

The Cardinals also made the playoffs in 2015 under Meyers.

You want to be consistent as a program, Meyers said. You would want to have seven to nine wins a year. We’ve managed to win the playoffs, but now the goal is to get out of the second round and get to play Thanksgiving. We’ve been close, but haven’t taken that step.

There are 10 newcomers who have returned since 2021.

The biggest challenge is replacing full-range performer Twillie Lovett, who played for the Cardinals and was now defensive defender McNeese.

Meeting the challenge is 5-foot-11, 185-pound younger Stone Meyers, the son of head coach.

Twillie was good to us, Meyers said. Stone is able to control the attack well and he is an effective runner and passerby. We will be able to throw it more consistently this year. He’s been around this offense since he was very young, so he knows what we’re trying to do. He has a high intelligence quotient, he is a tough and leading team.

Defenders are a solid duo with junior Alfred Carter (5-9, 190) and sophomore Kaleb Wallace (5-9, 155), while sophomore Jaedon Voison (6-2, 215), who is the starter in defense, also sees action run back.

Alfred and Kaleb provide power and speed, Meyers said. Both are returning beginners, so they should be even better for us this season.

The defender is junior Jace Gibson (5-8, 195).

The line of attack should be good, with three beginners returning, including two-way performer junior Riley Whitten (62, 265), who also plays the line of defense.

We have three beginners a year ago, Meyers said. Whitten is our center and is now the beginning of three years. David Leaber is a junior (5-8, 240) and Corbin Richardson (58, 240) should be solid in the guard positions. David started at our center last year when Riley played the guard. They change. Junior Hunter Orgeron (6-2, 275) and senior Patrick Chudzinski (6-1, 230) are returning beginners.

The top recipient is senior Trace Williams (6-2, 190), who has safe hands and can help the Cardinals expand their passing game.

Trace is a good size and she’s a four-year-old beginner, Meyers said. He is confident in his hand and will help us, while the younger Jerimiah Moses will see there action as well to begin the defense for us.

Junior Gary Ragas (6-0, 205) has a tight head.

Another key player is tight end / linebacker Vincent Drake, who is now at the University of Arkansas in Monticello.

Slightly less experience in defense where four starters have returned.

We have four guys up front, including a couple of returning starters junior Nathan Payne (5-10, 245) and Whitten, who play both ways, Meyers said. Sophomore Lamar Wallace (6-2, 225) and senior Dylan Piglia (6-4, 240) are the lone parent on the defensive line. It should be an improved group from the previous season.

The strength of the unit is the linebacker position, where juniors Kyelin Smith (6-2, 230) and Voison show the way.

The linebacker is in a good position for us, Meyers said. Smith is very good when Voison is athletic. Sophomore Aedan Westbrook (5-10, 190) is the second to take part in us, and we have another player moving in that will make a big impact when he becomes eligible. Ragas also plays linebacker.

The secondary should be solid, under the good refuge of the old couples of Tyler Dickson (5-11, 186) and the younger Jerimiah Moses (61, 190).

Our safety is really good, Meyers said. Dickson is a three-year starter and leader. He is tough, fast and likes to hit. Moses is simply a good athlete and varied. Seniors Kyron Ramsey (5-8, 155) and Evan Pollard (5-9, 160) along with sophomore Leon Jackson (510, 155) are all playing in the corner.

Thanks to her grinding style and solid preparation, Belle Chasse plans to be in the games weekly and strives to learn and develop at an early stage as its younger players gain the necessary experience.

The schedule is challenging, with just four games at Belle Chasse Stadium and six away from home.

The regular season begins with the Battle of Plaquemines Parish against South Plaquemines at Belle Chasse on September 3, before the Cardinals entertain Riverdale.

Four consecutive road games are followed by Vandebilt Catholic, Salmen, Franklinton and Riverside.

The last non-district game is at Belle Chasse Stadium against Lakeshor.

The District 10-4A show features the Cardinals in Helen Cox and the traditional force Karr before closing home against Landry 5. November.

It may be the most difficult schedule ever for Belle Chasse, Meyers said. South Plaquemines is a tough racing game and they are ready for us. Playing four straight down the road is hard. Vandebilt is a solid program. The Strait is hard, hard. Franklinton is getting better. Riverside was very good last year and there are very good athletes there. The lake shore is being improved and they are always really good.

Helen Cox is getting better, Karr is always an elite group of athletes and Landry has a lot of talent. It will be very demanding.

Thanks to the long-term consistency, Belle Chasse can be expected in absolute terms in 2021.

We’re young but more athletic than last year, Meyers said. We only have five older beginners with lots of juniors and some sophomores. The future is quite good, but we think there is a good ability to turn it into a profit again. We need to improve every week through the gaming experience.

Find that the Cardinals are back in the 4A playoffs and will likely advance past the first round. The question is how soon younger players will mature and learn early in the season through many hard road trials.

We’re really looking forward to the normal season, Meyers said.
