Worcester: Mithali Raj, skipper of the Indian women’s cricket team, became the best running player in international cricket in all its forms, surpassing former English batter Charlotte Edwards here on Saturday.

38-year-old Mithali hit the border over the head of England speedboat Natalie Sciver as she passed the 10,273 run Charlotte made for the 11th time. The border helped Mithal get to 10,277 runs.

Most of Mithal’s runs have come from ODI cricket, where he has collected over 7,200 runs. He has done 669 runs in Test Cricket and 2364 runs in T20 International Cricket.

She is the only female cricketer to have done more than 6,000 runs and an average of more than 50 ODI crickets. Charlotte is next on the list of ODI runners with 5992 runs.

On June 26, Mithal, who played his 217th one-day international role here in Worcester, had only become the second international cricket after Sachin Tendulkar, who had completed 22 years in ODI cricket.

When Mithali failed last month in a one-off attempt against England in two and four runs in two shifts, he struck half a century in the first two ODIs. He scored 72 in the first match in Bristol and 59 in the second in Taunton.
