NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – The North Platte tennis community started Saturday by offering good times in addition to tennis balls. They gathered at Cody Park for their annual Wooden Racket tournament. The tournament is held every July in honor of one of the biggest tennis events, Wimbledon. To add to the celebration, attendees will wear all-white, just like athletes do at Wimbledon.
The format of the event consisted of players who varied from field to field and played with different people in each game.
They are a variety of awards given during the event, some for the best costume and others for expressing the spirit of the event. What is the spirit of the event? Tournament director Marshall Dorr says it’s just fun.
We just try to have more fun, play with people you haven’t played with in just 20 minutes, and a new partner and just mix it up. Just for fun, and it’s also in the spirit of just having fun with the game, you know respect for the tennis past.
