Formula 1: Australian Grand Prix canceled again Formula one

This year’s competition had already been pushed back from its usual start to the season until November, when it was hoped the restrictions would be eased.

Victoria is almost free of locally transmitted cases of coronavirus, but strict quarantine arrangements for overseas tourists remain in place.

The organizers of the competition had reportedly asked the Victorian government for an air navigation arrangement with drivers, team officials and staff with the Biosafety Center to avoid a mandatory 14-day quarantine period.

Given the rapid turnaround in F1 calendar races, any quarantine period in Melbourne would force drivers to skip other races. The previous Brazilian Grand Prix will be held on November 7, and the race weekend in Albert Park will begin on November 19.

The Australian Grand Prix Corporations Covid-safe plan came under review last week when the federal government announced a 50 per cent discount for foreign passengers on return missions, although a substantial grand prize cohort is likely to fall outside that cap.

It comes when Victoria recorded a sixth straight day of zero locally infectious cases, while NSW reported 18 and Queensland one on Tuesday.

Sports Minister Martin Pakula and Australian Grand Prix Corporation CEO Andrew Westacott will hold a media conference on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
