When Karan Johar saw the Ranveer Singhs poster and wondered who would see Band Baaja Baarat, it later felt stupid | Bollywood

Ranveer Singh has come a long way since making his debut in Bollywood with Band Baaja Baarat in 2010, and has achieved rare both critical and commercial success. But did you know that Karan Johar wasn’t very impressed with Ranveer after seeing him at the Yash Raj Films office first?

When Ranveer Singh turns 36, here’s his first appearance at Koffee With Karan in 2010, where Karan Johar admitted he doubted Aditya Chopras ’faith in her. Karan even advised Aditya not to place Ranyer because of her appearance. However, the spindle was blown after watching Ranveer Band Baaja in Baaraat.

Karan revealed that he was at the Yash Raj Films studio for lunch with Aditya and Yash Johar when he saw Ranveer playing table tennis for the first time. Karan wrongly took Ranveer as assistant director, but was informed that he is the new son of Band Baaja Baarat.

So I said, he’s Band Baaja in Baarati? Adi said: He’s a really good actor, you have no idea how good he is. I said: It doesn’t matter, but he looks like this, Karan said as Ranveer was shocked and pretended to get up and leave.

Karan then saw Ranveer on the Band Baaja Baaraat poster and asked Aditya to change it. Karan recalled thinking who was watching this movie Adity urged her to look at the trailer before making the verdict.

I saw the promo and I was like, This boy actually has a sense of self-confidence and he has something. But it doesn’t reflect on that poster, change that poster. I was like, I have no hope, Karan said. However, he was forced to eat his word when he actually looked at Band Baaja Barat. I went to watch this movie and I was like, Oh my God, he (Ranveer) is the star of the movie. He’s a bloody movie star, he said. He added that he felt he was the biggest dumb without underestimating Ranveer and Anushka Sharma.

Karan has now signed Ranveer to his next directorial venture, an ambitious drama magazine called Takht. The film, which also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Alia Bhatt, Janhvi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar, was supposed to go on the floors last year, but has so far been pushed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
