MUMBAI: Salil Ankola, a former Indian fighter, has remained Mumbai’s chief executive on the State Body (MCA) Cricket Healing Committee (CIC).
Sanjay Naik, secretary of the Mumbai Cricket Association, confirmed the development to PTI on Tuesday.
52-year-old Ankola took two gates in his only India test match. He had also played 20 ODIs, capturing 13 gates.
In domestic cricket, Ankola played 54 matches and took 181 goals, the best of which was 47 47.
MCA’s CIC consists of former Indian players – Jatin Paranjpe, Nilesh Kulkarni and Vinod Kambli.
Ankola was named Mumbai’s main choice for the first time last season, which was limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The committee led by Ankola had picked up the older teams for the Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq awards.
Mumbai won the Vijay Hazare Trophy last week’s Mushtaq Ali domestic T20 tournament after a devastating show.
This time, the BCCI has announced a domestic schedule as Ranji Trophy returns to the route plan after the tournament was canceled last season due to a pandemic.
Speaking to the PTI, Ankola said his only focus is on “improving Mumbai cricket.”
“It’s good to come back and hope for the best. My friends rarely choose to go. The coach I have chosen has been fantastic. BCCI has given us a complete itinerary and I look forward to the Ranji Trophy.
“We are trying to do our best for Mumbai. The only arbitrariness is to improve Mumbai cricket,” Ankola said.
The MCA had previously appointed domestic serious Amol Muzumdar as coach for the coming season.
